The combined use of radio-frequency electromagnetics and radiomagnetotellurics methods in non-ideal field conditions for delineating hydrogeological boundaries and for environmental problems

چکیده
Radio frequency geophysical methods are known for being very versatile tools in groundand groundwater investigation at shallow depths. They are fast and easy to use and allow a high density of information over large surfaces, which makes them very suitable for geological mapping sensu lato (faults, lithological contacts, groundwater-bearing structures, vulnerability maps, and contaminant plumes) and for selecting borehole locations. Significant improvement concerning 2D and 3D modelling of the data has occurred in recent decades. However, field surveys are very seldom performed in ‘‘ideal conditions’’— the lack of necessary transmitters, in the convenient direction, in order to catch the structures in Eand H-pol for modelling purposes, is not an unusual situation. The present paper shows how the use of RMT and RF-EM is nevertheless of great help and suggests different ways to explore qualitative data in different geological settings.

Significant Error Propagation in the Finite Difference Solution of Non-Linear Magnetostatic Problems Utilizing Boundary Condition of the Third Kind
This paper poses two magnetostatic problems in cylindrical coordinates with different permeabilities for each region. In the first problem the boundary condition of the second kind is used while in the second one, the boundary condition of the third kind is utilized. These problems are solved using the finite element and finite difference methods. In second problem, the results of the finite di...
متن کاملAnalysis of thin plates by a combination of isogeometric analysis and the Lagrange multiplier approach
The isogeometric analysis is increasingly used in various engineering problems. It is based on Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) basis function applied for the solution field approximation and the geometry description. One of the major concerns with this method is finding an efficient approach to impose essential boundary conditions, especially for inhomogeneous boundaries. The main contri...
متن کاملSimulation of Ideal External and Internal Flows with Arbitrary Boundaries Using Schwarz Christoffel Transformation
The flow field, velocity and pressure coefficient distribution of some 2-D ideal flows are presented. Conformal mapping is used to simulate two-dimensional ideal flow for a variety of complex internal and external configurations, based on the numerical integration of Schwarz-Christoffel transformation. The advantages of this method are simplicity and high accuracy. The method presented in this ...
متن کاملNon-auditory Effects Caused by Environmental Noise Pollution
Noise pollution is one of the prominent environmental problems affecting human health especially in developing countries. The impacts of noise on health should not be underestimated. Exposure to acoustical stimuli impairs not only the function of auditory system but also that of many other systems of human body. Previous investigations revealed that noise exposure could result in sleep disturba...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Non-Trial-and-Error Design Method for Double Screen Frequency Selective Surfaces
An intelligent design method of double screen frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) is addressed in this paper. The employed unit cell is composed of two metallic screens, which are printed on both sides of a substrate. The presented non-trial-and-error approach is investigated based on the separate design of each screen. With the help of some physical intuition and an equivalent circuit model, i...
